  • Overview

    Responsible for directing and managing a team of approximately 12 (2 shifts), establish new SOP’s in order to provide all the Pre-Production functions required to support and increase efficiency of soft armor Production in a high volume fast paced environment. Collaborate with other cross functional partners in the plant and related Ontario DES team. Deliverables include implementing industry best practices, improving team workflow efficiency, upholding established quality standards, while keeping timely delivery of product launches and workflow through to Production.


    • Improve the Sample Cell team’s sewing skills, quality of execution, expedite processing and efficiency, increase output and expedite turnaround of deliverables in a fast-paced high-volume environment (MODS, NPD, etc.)
    • Review all patterns generated by DES for errors/corrections prior to MR, make changes/improvements accordingly
    • Reduce turn-time of resolutions requiring approval from Ontario DES
    • Have final approval authority for “Reference Samples”, Size Set validation, PP/Control Samples (red tag) and others
    • Review grading, graded specs, and perform audit of final patterns, order of operations, and SAM’s
    • Be cognizant that target costs are met and advise changes to ensure adherence
    • Review Tech Packs for accuracy (including Centric PLM)
    • Provide input on more favorable construction techniques for maximum efficiency and manufacturability
    • Reduce number of samples required to achieve target deliverables
    • Perform all MR’s and oversee all Pilot Runs
    • Perform final audit of all data prior to release to Production
    • Contribute process and equipment improvements to support Production in the above
    • Work closely with Quality to increase throughput, increase First Pass Quality and reduction of errors, rework, and seconds
    • Work closely with Production to increase overall production efficiency targets
    • Work closely with Production Management to implement process improvements such as alternative Progressive Bundle System (PBS) and Modular Manufacturing for specific type of orders/quantities, to complement current process UPS (Unit Production System)
    • Cross-functional responsibilities include supporting related team members in all areas of armor production, including NPD, Planning, CAD-CAM/Cutting/Sub-Assy, Supply Chain, Quality, Sewing and Finishing
    • Build on and skillset of the team by implementing industry best practices and standards, and establish appropriate organizational team structure
    • Approximately 12 staff including engineers, technicians and specialized sewing operators.


    • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in a fast-paced Apparel/Garment industry Technical Design Dept. or similar
    • Min 10+ years of direct sewn goods Production/ Manufacturing experience
    • In-depth understanding of all processes including patternmaking, grading, marker-making, nesting, material handling and cutting (CnC and laser), to multiple garment construction techniques, sewing, assembly, and finishing
    • 10+ yrs on Gerber Accumark, Optitex, PAD, Tukatech or other design software
    • 10+ yrs working with a variety of sewing machines and related production equipment
    • College Degree or related technical degree
    • High level of proficiency in CAD pattern, grading, marker, nesting (Optitex, Gerber Accumark, Lectra, Tukacad, or PAD)
    • Hands on experience in related sewing and assembly processes
    • Strong organizational and leadership skills
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
    • Manage staff selection, performance, development and training to ensure team reaches desired competencies, company goals and expectations
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Office suite
    • Fluent in English and Spanish
