  • Overview

    Oversees all manufacturing activities or a large section within the plant. Develops a world class operations team that drives efficiencies and cost reduction through teamwork to create a competitive operation.  Achieves optimum labor, overhead and raw material costs for the size of the business /level of activity.  Directs activities so that approved products are manufactured on-schedule while adhering to compliance, safety and quality standards.  Coordinate with Research & Development to identify initiatives to drive design for manufacturability. 

     

    Demonstrated background in transforming an operation to one that consistently provides excellent service to customers. The candidate will have a passion for continuous improvement focused on safety, quality, delivery, inventory and cost in a competitive environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for exceeding customer expectations and making Raving Fans
    • Develop and implement a footprint strategy to reduce complexity and cost
    • Proactively and deliberately develop talent within the organization
    • Develop a culture and programs that lead to high employee engagement
    • Utilize tools to identify the reduction of complexity within the operation
    • Coach and lead the team to utilize various operating tools
    • Develop capacity planning tools for operations that aligns with commercial forecasts
    • Develop and implement lean tools within the operation
    • Create a Kaizen process that delivers improvements in operational performance
    • Manage the capital planning process for the business
    • Work with product leaders to design new products for manufacturability
    • Develops and effectively manages the budget and capital plan for the assigned plant
    • Ensures that the highest standards of quality are met and maintained
    • Manage the plant operations to ensure products are produced in a timely, safe and cost effective manner
    • Develop, monitor and report on operating costs
    • Accepts full accountability for delivery of gross margins for site
    • Drives a continuous improvement culture to reduce costs and drive efficiencies
    • Initiate and coordinate major projects to maximize operational effectiveness
    • Talent management and succession planning to build a highly effective operations team
    • Provides leadership to the plant; hires, trains, develops and appraises team members
    • Ensures shipment and delivery targets are met and maintained
    • Manages plant capacity planning to meet customer demand
    • Continual contact with all employees, high visible manager
    • Ensures effective communication with other functional departments to ensure efficient operation of the plant
    • Ensure Managers and Supervisors comply with all company policies and regulatory standards and specifications.
    • Administer practices in a fair and equitable manner
    • Contributes to the long term operational strategy
    • Consults stakeholders when making decisions that would affect the group
    • Compliance with safety and quality trainings
    • Active participation in kaizen and continuous improvement events
    • Participates in health and safety prevention programs (Incidents investigation, risks identification) and different activities that contribute to a Safe and environmental friendly working environment
    • Works independently to broad policies, objectives and guidelines

    • Direct or indirect responsibility for teams across multiple disciplines (manufacturing, engineering, production, planning, procurement, warehouse, quality and facilities maintenance)

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS in industrial or mechanical engineering, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline.
    • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing and operations / supply chain management, preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related industry.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.
    • 5+ years of implementing and utilizing Lean methodologies
    • Must have experience practicing, leading and coaching a lean environment
    • Demonstrated track record of developing talent
    • Experience leading turnaround operational performance
    • BA/BS in industrial or mechanical engineering, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline.
    • Strong education in leadership, management and execution to business plan required
    • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or applicable field preferred but not required
    • Strong interpersonal skills and technical ability to interface with other functional areas such as marketing, sales and customer service.
    • Quick learner with excellent business acumen
    • Self-starter who works well with people at all levels
    • Ability to motivate and provide excellent leadership to others
    • Strong manufacturing, engineering base that will be needed to understand and drive the organization towards optimal manufacturing capability.
