We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Injection Mold Toolmaker to join our team.

     

    Reporting to the Tooling Shop Foreman, we are looking for a very hands-on person familiar with the operation of vertical mills, surface grinders and lathes. Qualified candidates will work closely with design and programming engineers as well as mold makers on the shop floor. The successful candidate will be able to work from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Job Functions:

     

    • Cut, shape and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shape, using power saws, power shears, rules and hand tools
    • File, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit together
    • Familiarity with assembly of new molds, including the ability to check shut off levels, fit contoured parting lines and moving components
    • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify jigs, gauges and tools using machine and hand tools
    • Lift, position and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoist, vises, v-blocks or angle plate
    • Measure, mark and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes and rulers
    • Set up and operate conventional or machine tools such as lathes, manual mills and surface grinders, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions an finishes
    • Set up an operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly
    • Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths or power grinders
    • Study and understand blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies or assemblies
    • Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators

    Qualifications

    Required Experience:

    • Solid background in the use of machinery and inspection equipment of all types
    • 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience building plastic injection molds
    • Experienced in maintenance of existing molds, disassembly, clean, regrease, and reassembly.
    • Prototrak experience is a plus
    • Knowledge of plastic injection molds is preferred, but not necessary

    Required Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent GED
    • Job targeted trade school with a focus on machining

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Must be knowledgeable in machining and working from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.
    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, use, repair and maintenance
    • Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions
    • Ability to see details at close range
    • Ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands and wrists
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
    • Successful candidates will show high initiative, be self-motivated and the ability to act independently to resolve issues on technical matters.
    • Candidate must provide their own tools, including micrometers, indicators, parallels and others as needed. 
    • Must have own Measuring Tools
