    Summary


     


    The Cost Accounting Group Manager will be responsible to staff, maintain and supervise the Cost Accounting department within the Finance/Accounting department.  They will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the cost accounting function for the organization and will act as the liaison between the plant accountants and corporate accounting.  In this highly visible position, the incumbent’s expertise will be challenged as they interface regularly with senior management, as well as, a wide range of business unit leaders foreign and domestic.

    Responsibilities


    • Plan, organize and direct all activities of the cost accounting team

    • Lead the day to day operations of the existing cost accounting function from management of current rates to monthly close of analysis

    • Support the Project Cost Team in the development of a standard costing system

    • Lead the transition from the existing cost environment to a new standard cost system

    • Identify, hire and develop in-plant cost accountants

    • Develop and maintain standard costs

    • Perform monthly closing activities including preparation of the COGS statements along with supporting analysis

    • Proactive analysis of variances and communication of issues and opportunities to operations management

    • Develop metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers

    • Define policies and procedures for all cost accounting activities

    • Reviews profit and loss statements for all individual products

    • Supervise the maintenance and inventory records or products

    • Develop budget template for COGS products and oversee field budget process

    • Direct cost audits and their interpretations that will assist management in directing and controlling operations

    • Oversee the following activities for operations:Analysis of monthly manufacturing variances


      • Analysis of monthly gross profit

      • Analysis of inventory reserves

      • Analysis of labor and manufacturing overhead rates

      • Analysis of fixed vs. variable overhead rates

      • Analysis of labor operation hours

      • Monitor changes of bills of materials

      • Monitor monthly inventory levels and implement cycle count programs

      • Lead physical inventory process


    • Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization’s cost accounting procedures

    • Will supervise four (4) or more associates

    • Authority to hire and terminate on Cost Accounting team (within HR policies)

    • Perform all other ad hoc duties as assigned by Corporate Controller

    Qualifications


    • Minimum of seven (7) or more years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment

    • Minimum three (3) years of financial management experience supervising finance/accounting or operations personnel

    • Experience with Visual Manufacturing system, Oracle financials, or Microsoft Dynamics (ERP)

    • Experience with Hyperion Essbase or a similar reporting tool

    • Experience in Lean Manufacturing

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or other relevant field.

    • Master’s degree or MBA preferred

    • CPA or CMA a plus

    • Excellent analytical skills

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    • Proven experience in driving process improvement

    • Demonstrated leadership skills

    • History of driving continuous improvement change within the department

    • Ability to lead, motivate and support accounting team

    • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with non-accounting professionals

    • Ability to travel 20% of time to other company locations
