Overview

Act as primary buyer for materials; ensures consistent inventory flow to minimize stock outs with efficient inventory levels.. Works within an Integrated Product team Structure to support the supply needs of the product category. The individual within this role would be accountable to support Production, Planning, and Internal Customers; through involvement in Plant activities/KPI/etc. Represents the Purchasing group in assigned roles and performs all functions of a Buyer with minimal supervision. Develops junior team members.

Responsibilities

Building on Buyer I responsibilities, the following additional functions are required.

 Material Planning

  • Thorough understand of MRP principles, able to identify and teach junior members parameters affecting the material plan
  • Issue and maintain purchase orders
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Maintain parameters affecting material availability and timely purchasing activities
  • Ensures appropriate inventory levels are maintained
  • Resolve material expedite needs
  • Represents the Purchasing group while supporting new product development

Vendor Management

  • Anticipate and manage supply risk
  • Collaborate on creative solutions to meet supply chain goals
  • Communicate with suppliers in a professional manner as to create partnerships
  • Capable of developing supplier profiles

Analysis

  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills
  • Create meaningful, effective analytical reports
  • Assess and implement inventory strategies when required
  • Analyze raw material reports to aid improvements of re-order points and deliveries
  • Ability to navigate and affectively use analytical applications including but not limited to MRP/Excel/Access/Forecasting software/other
  • Manage slow moving or obsolete inventory
  • Initiates and reports opportunity of supplier programs such as, supplier reduction, quality improvements, cycle time reduction, JIT delivery and cost reduction, with an emphasis on building strategic relationships.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) to five(5) years’ experience in purchasing, production planning, production management, or sourcing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations Management or other relevant field; AA degree may be considered
  • Experience Considered in lieu of Education
  • APICS certification preferred
  • Understand production flow principles and processes

  • Strong project Management Skills

  • Self-directed

  • Travel as required

  • Knowledgeable in world-class supply chain processes
