Overview

Responsible for asigned Legal functions within The Safariland Group to achieve objectives established by the Vice President of Legal and Chief Compliance Officer. Ensure that the Company remains in compliance with corporate and governmental directives, policies, regulations and laws. Responsible for oversight and management of the Company’s compliance program relating to import and export, including export licensing and related trade compliance functions.  Responsible for planning, developing, implementing and monitoring all policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all government import and export regulations, including US Department of State, US Department of Commerce, US Department of Treasury, US Customs & Border Protection and other applicable regulatory agencies, including those counter-part agencies in Canada, UK and EU. 

Responsibilities

  • Offer counsel on a variety of legal issues
  • Advise executives within the company and work alongside associates across businesses and functional areas, including Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, Human Resources and International
  • Manage various projects and deadlines
  • Provide assistance with global joint ventures, strategic partnership deals, and mergers and acquisitions, particularly for due diligence and integration activities relating to import and export/licensing compliance
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes that may affect the company and its affiliates
  • Develop solutions to complex legal questions
  • Provide training to company and its affiliates on substantive legal topics
  • Designated as Empowered Official per ITAR and provide required certifications for registration with US State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC)
  • Manage and maintain comprehensive internal import and export controls to ensure compliance with US and foreign (Canada, European Union, UK) regulations
  • Provide guidance to the company and associates along with review and approval of US import and export related documentation to enable the company and its worldwide subsidiaries to ensure approval of export licenses and other related documents
  • Analyze and interpret government agency laws, regulation and practices related to Import, Export and global trade compliance.
  • Ensure proper classification of the company’s commodities under applicable export or controlled goods regulations
  • Conduct internal audit reviews/assessment for the company and its subsidiaries
  • Conducts internal investigations related to any alleged infractions or violations of applicable import or export regulations
  • Review and approve export licenses, Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs) and Manufacturing License Agreements (MLAs)
  • Assists the Vice President of Legal and the Chief Compliance Officer in developing Import and Export functional strategy
  • Establish import and export goals and objectives and the measurement and monitoring process necessary to determine actual progress and completion of company’s goals and objectives, both from a business and functional perspective

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience
  • Import/Export Compliance experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required
  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred
  • Experience in dealing with government regulators, particularly relating to international trade
  • Experience in dealing with compliance of import/export regulations, including classification of products, licensing, origin and duty determinations and trade agreements
  • Extensive knowledge of the ITAR/EAR/OFAC and applicable regulations relating to trade compliance
  • Experience in performing risk assessment, due diligence or integration relating to import, export and trade compliance
  • Experience in investigating potential infractions of import or export regulations and reporting disclosures to applicable government agencies
  • Experience in dispute resolution relating to international trade issues
